After an early morning surf in glassy conditions with a few friends out in Mauna Lani, I decided to go check out the new project in the Mauna Lani Resort called, “The Residences of Laule’a.” My good friend is the sales manager for the project so, I stopped by for an update…
Laule’a is a new 17 home luxury development set amongst a world-class golf course in the beautiful Mauna Lani resort on the Kohala Coast of the Island of Hawaii.
Mauna Lani itself features two golf courses, white and black sand beaches, private resident’s club, multiple residential offerings, and The Shops at Mauna Lani with upscale boutiques and restaurants like Tommy Bahamas.
Of course, I love Mauna Lani for the surf, golf, and family-friendly environment! The two major hotels in the resort are the Fairmont Orchid at Mauna Lani, which was a Starwood Luxury property and prior to Starwood, it was the Ritz-Carlton. The other famous hotel is the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows which has recently been sold and a new exciting renovation is due in October of next year.
As I walked through the beautiful entry gates at Laule’a (already completed), I noticed a ton of activity! The developer is building out all 17 units at the same time! The offering consists of single family, duplex, and one triplex home. Out of the 17 homes, at the writing of this, there are only 6 remaining for sale! According to the MLS, they closed their first home in June of 2017 which recorded for $3,850,000. This is a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom 2,748 sq. ft. interior home. Currently listed on the MLS are 3 homes ranging from 2,097 sq. ft. to 2,887 sq. ft. consisting of 3 bed, 3 bath and 4 bed, 4 bath with prices from $2,500,000 - $4,400,000.
What I like about Laule’a… the team the developer assembled is spectacular! The architect, Kahiau Design Group Inc., is from Hawaii and has done an amazing job creating a contemporary Hawaii feel with wonderful open spaces, open kitchens, outdoor private showers, pools and spas! Philpotts Interiors, also from Hawaii, does an amazing job featuring two palettes for interior designs, “Modern Island” and “Traditional Hawaiian.” The builder is Maryl which has been building quality homes in Hawaii for 25 years.
Each home features their own private pool, spa, and BBQ area. What more do you need? One unique difference with Laule’a is that there is no central recreation center like many of the other projects in the resort. With each home having their own pool, you really don’t need another pool and community BBQ area. Two cool things about this: one, the homeowners’ fees are lower without having a shared amenity (estimated around $1,300 per month); two, the homeowner fee includes backyard maintenance of the private pools!
Vacation rentals are permitted at Laule’a so if the homeowner wanted to offset costs by creating income while not using the home, that is available.
With limited NEW home construction in Mauna Lani, The Residences of Laule’a could be a great option for those seeking an exclusive, intimate, luxurious brand-new home in one of Hawaii’s most sought-after resorts!
