The “Golden Hour” 

The sun is starting to set over Oahu’s South Shore, and while most people are on their way home from work, Daphne Hargrove is still going strong. “That’s the best time for light,” Daphne explains, “there’s a softness to it, and it casts this incredible glow that looks great in pictures.” Daphne is a professional photographer, and this evening she’s shooting a couple of young newlyweds from out of town that are looking forward to a fun, beachy photo session. While she specializes in portraiture photography, Daphne also shoots commercial and product photos, head shots, real estate, travel photos, and boudoir photography. She loves taking pictures, and she’s been doing it professionally for the past eleven years.

Capturing the Aloha

“I like to think that a photograph is an instant of truth,” Daphne explains. “It’s a bit of magic really… capturing the little things, forever, so that you can always return to the special feeling of that moment.” Whether she’s taking pictures of vacationing couples or shooting Hawaii residents, Daphne loves to incorporate the iconic and beautiful imagery of the islands in her work as well. From impressive waterfalls and lush greenery to majestic cliffs and endless ocean views, she prides herself on being able to “capture the aloha” of Hawaii and give her clients “forever memories” to help memorialize their time in Hawaii, bring a little of the islands back with them, or celebrate the place they call home. More often than not, many of her customers have never had professional photos taken before, and Daphne revels in the sense of wonder, pride, and joy her photos ultimately yield.

From the Stage to the Lens

From her time as a professional ballerina to her tenure as a luxury property real estate agent, Daphne had artistic blood in her veins and an appreciation for both beauty and style. For her, professional photography was a seamless transition as she’s always looking at things from different perspectives and loves to document precious moments and memories. What started as a hobby in her early years blossomed into a full-time career, and she’s always looking forward to meeting her next client who’s looking for that special shot.
